Mrs. Maddox was a loving mother and grandmother, who adored her daughter and grandson more than anything else in her life. She was also a lifelong member of the Luverne United Methodist Church, and a passionate supporter of local veteran programs. She dedicated her life to educating the youth of Luverne as a teacher at Luverne High School. She was beloved by both her students and fellow teachers alike. She was a fixture at home football games to the very end, faithfully rooting for her Luverne Tigers.
Mrs. Maddox was also a proud graduate of Auburn University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She was a stout supporter of Auburn, and proudly wore her orange and blue colors. She enjoyed many years of tailgating at Auburn Football games, and cheering on the Tigers from her seat in the upper deck. She left a lasting impression on the life of every student who passed through her classroom, and will never be forgotten because of it.
Mrs. Maddox was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Capt. Lester E. Maddox (Ret.), and her parents, N.Y. and Robbie Lee. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Kimberley and Cody Burtts; her grandson, Garrett Burtts; first cousins, Sam (Linda) Jones, John Earl Green, and Martha Jane Filiben; and sister-in-law, Ima Niemeyer.
