Executive Drive relocation bid OK’d

The Greenville City Council continues to pave the way for the much-anticipated Zaxby’s restaurant to be constructed on Fort Dale Road, across from Advance Auto Parts and Captain D’s.
During Monday afternoon’s meeting, councilmembers approved a bid of more than $500,000 to relocate Executive Drive to accommodate construction of the fast-food restaurant.
“The bid came in at $510,020 — in the resolution we have $525,000 — that is just in case we have something else that comes up; it keeps us from having to come back,” Mayor Dexter McLendon said. “That was something that the engineer recommended.”
According to City Clerk Dee Blackmon, the bid was awarded to Mitchell’s Contracting Service, Inc., out of Catherine. Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, the project’s engineers, reviewed the bids and made recommendation to the council based on the “most responsive” and “responsible” bidder, according to Resolution 2019-11. Councilman Jimmy Lawson made the motion, which was seconded by Councilman Ed Sims, and unanimously approved.
“This is a long time coming, but we are glad to get to this point,” McLendon concluded. “As soon as they give all of this information to Zaxby’s, they can approve it and then they can get started. This is one of the things that they’ve been waiting on.”
The development plan calls for Manningham Road to be extended through the current red light at Advance Auto Parts and CVS, along the property parallel to the Greenville Country Club and turn behind the proposed Zaxby’s restaurant, located at 909 Fort Dale Rd. The roadway will cut through the parcel of property, leaving a portion of it to the north for future commercial development. The portion of Executive Drive beginning at Fort Dale Road and ending along the back parking lot of O’Reilly Auto Parts will be vacated and used for the new development.
The former Lifeline Church building and the former salon housed in the old home, also located on the property, will be torn down soon.
