Fresh produce, locally-grown vegetables and baked goods can now be found downtown at the Butler County Farmers Market.
Located at 701 Cedar St., near the Butler County Courthouse, the market is open from 7 a.m. until noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays under the pavilion. An annual event, the market opened the last weekend in May.
For many, the market has become a family tradition. For Chris and Dusty Bagents, owners of Countryside Gardens, LLC in Rutledge, the market has served as a home away from home over the years.
“We’ve been coming here at least seven years,” the couple said. “We enjoy it. Everyone loves my kids. They help the vendors set up. Really, they have grown up coming here and are such good helpers especially this year.”
With two children and early market mornings, Dusty learned the art of balancing the responsibilities of the market and motherhood.
“I am not a morning person,” she said. “I let my kids sleep until 5:30, but we try to be here by 6:30 every morning because even though the market opens at 7, the locals know that the early bird gets the worm and make sure to be here waiting early those mornings.”
All in all, Dusty is thankful for the facility and opportunity to be apart of the unique market.
“The atmosphere is so good, it is a steady pace of people. It is so nice to have a facility like this,” Dusty concluded.
Many local vendors like Dusty can be found at the market. This year, there is a wide-selection of fresh potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, blackberries, watermelons, blueberries, pound cakes, handmade soaps and much more.
This season do not miss out on this healthy and unique opportunity. The market will be open until December.
