Q: When and where were you born?

A: Butler County in 1936. More specifically, I was born in Dock.

 

Q: Who were your parents?

A: Bert and Unise Henderson.

 

Q: What did your parents do for a living?

A: Mom kept the house up and dad farmed with a mule.

 

Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?

A: I had seven brothers and three sisters.

 

Q: Where did you attend school?

A: Greenville all the way through.

 

What do you recall most from your childhood?

A: I remember fishing and coon hunting the most. Also, every night after supper, we ran to the courthouse and back, just to stay in shape.

 

Q: Where have you lived?

A: I moved to Memphis after high school and got a job with Sears. I also served for three years in Korea at the end of the Conflict.

 

Q: What is your wife’s name? What did she do for a living?

A: Frances Henderson. She worked at Dan River Mills, Pettibone and retired from Walmart.

 

Q: Do you have any children?

A: We have two daughters, Charlene and Jennifer, and one son, Todd.

 

Q: What made your spouse the one for you?

A: I’m not to sure. We lived close to one another. I’d walk through the fields and the woods to see her family. We just got together from there.

 

Q: What advice do you give married couples for them to have a long, healthy marriage like you have?

A: Don’t be in a big hurry. It has worked for us for 58 years.

 

Q: Where do you attend church?

A: Antioch East Baptist Church

 

Q: Where did you work?

A: After I got out of the service, I came back and worked for Pepsi Cola. Then, I got a job with the fertilizer plant in Greenville where I worked for 28 years.

After that, I worked for the Butler Farmers Co-Op in Greenville for another 28 years.

 

Q: Do you have any grandchildren?

A: Yes, I’ve got three grandchildren.

Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?

A: I’ve been to California for basic training and was also stationed in Arizona for a while.

 

Q: What inventions have you witnessed that intrigue you?

A: Electric lights and indoor plumbing. I remember the first time we got electricity. The first night we turned it on, we thought the room was on fire.

 

Q: What keeps you busy these days?

A: I work out in the yard from time to time. I piddle around with the azalea bushes.

 

Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?

A: Don’t eat too much junk. Eat good meals.
