The Greenville City Council made quick work of business Monday night.

Expenditures dominated the less than four minute meeting as the council unanimously approved a nearly $5,000 unbudgeted expense to repair a city vehicle as well as just under $10,000 in budgeted expenses.

Mayor Dexter McLendon reported that the engine in Truck 84 used by the city’s Street Department had to be replaced.

“We are actually ordering this through Greenville Tire – that way we get a warranty on it,” he said. “We are going to put the engine and everything else in ourselves to try to save some money.”

The cost of the 5.4L Jasper Engine and installation kit is $4,774.

The council also approved $2,848 be paid to Leads Online for renewal of the Greenville Police Department’s investigation system service package and $6,600 be paid to Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood for semi-annual groundwater monitoring for closed landfill and explosive gas monitoring for open and closed landfill. Both expenses are budgeted items.

In other business, the council:

• Approved the quarterly financial reports, requisitions for payment and expenditures submitted for the fourth quarter of the 2017-18 fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30.
• Reported that cleanup at 105 Norvell St. had been completed and no action under the weed and debris ordinance would be needed.
• OK’d the minutes from the Oct. 8 council meeting.
• Announced that city offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veterans Day, which will be celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 11. City offices will also be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, for Thanksgiving.

The city council will convene again at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, Nov. 5.
