Last week, the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting celebrating the Grand Opening of Plow & Anchor, a new locally owned restaurant.
Owned and operated by Butler County native Brandon Burleson, Plow & Anchor offers a gourmet Southern twist on Cajun cuisine.
“I want it to be Cajun based, but still do some things true to this area,” chef Burleson said. “I am looking to offer things that are a little bit different, but are full of flavor.”
With its soft opening held three weeks prior, Burleson has been encouraged by the response of the community.
“I wanted to make good food for common people,” he said. “I looked other places, but everyone here in the city and the mayor have been nothing but helpful.”
Open from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, the restaurant menu changes daily, but revolves around specialty entrees and sandwiches.
“I am a freelance chef,” Burleson said. “Because of the training that I have had, I have learned to cook a lot of different things. The menu changes daily.”
From serving as head chef at Perdido Beach Resort to Central, a restaurant located in Montgomery offering traditional American cuisine for the River region, Burleson has had years of experience in the restaurant business. Competing in cooking competitions around the world, studying abroad at Auburn University and serving under the top chefs in the state, Burleson still had a desire to return home.
“The last two or three years, I have been really trying to find a way to make an impact in the community I am in, and a lot of it led to me coming home,” Burleson said. “It just felt right to be here. I wanted to cook for people and not for numbers or awards.”
Burleson added that he is looking forward to the months to come.
“I am happy to be home and be apart of the community and I appreciate everyone’s support so far,” he concluded.
The restaurant is located at 181 Cahaba Rd.
