On Thurs. morning, the Greenville High School Key Club partnered with the Shriners and Montgomery Food Bank for a special community service event. Outside the Greenville High School auditorium, the organizations held a “Mobile Food Bank,” handing out boxes of food to all those in need. G. R. Roberts, the director of the program and a minister for Jamaica Missions & Outreach, said, “We go to 5 counties during the year.” In each area, applications are distributed to potential participants. Roberts added, ”We go to the human resources downtown and those that qualify for food and assistance we give them an application. Just anyone who qualifies or wants to come they can come.” The volunteering members were a part of the Sharon Temple associated with the Shriners.  Roberts explained that for his program this was an ongoing event every month. He commented, “Its just one of our projects, […] This is our 7^th year doing this, and we go to a different county every month.” Forming an assembly line, members of the Key Club passed out boxes of food to every car that came through the line. The food donated by the Montgomery Food Bank included watermelons, crackers, fruit, meat, and water. Roberts said, “They have it weighed and measured, its up in the thousands of pounds of food.” The Mobile Pantry, designed by the Montgomery Food Bank, distributes truckloads of nutritious products directly to the needy residents in different neighborhoods. Roberts explained the process, “They have an application and we have to keep a record of that. I will go back and report to the Montgomery Food bank. We love to come to different areas and share.” The event was a success, passing out over 40 boxes of food. Roberts said, “We had good participation, good volunteers working, and I just appreciate all the help. We appreciate the school and the community supporting this.”
