Fort Dale Varsity Eagles hosted Eastwood Academy on Friday, April 13, and it proved to be a lucky date for the Eagles as they won both games by scores of 7-5 and 10-6.
The first game pitted Braxton Daniels for the entire game and Sully Harold behind the plate for the duration.
Three runs were earned by the Eagles in the first inning from Jason Little, Tripp Richardson and Braxton Daniels, and Daniels was able to hold Eastwood off until the second inning, when they put four of their five on the board.
Fort Dale scored three in the third from Daniels, Richardson and Luke Taylor. Their seventh run came in the fourth inning from Zach Winters and Eastwood put their additional run on the board in the seventh.
Evan Clark started on the mound with Sully Harold behind the plate for the second game of the double- header and the team held Eastwood to one score in each of the first, second, fifth and sixth innings and two in the seventh. Fort Dale scored two in the first, four in the second, two in the fourth, two in the fifth. Runs crossing the plate came from Jason Little, Tripp Richardson, Douglas Crews, Braxton Daniels, Wyatt Fullington and Zach Winters.
Before the game ended, several players went to the mound and the last play saw catcher, Sully Harold, pitching and center fielder Zack Winters catching. The last play of the game played out with Harold firing a pitch which was hit to the outfield. It was caught and fired back into home plate to Winters who had to give chase. He scooped it up and tossed it to Harold, who had come into cover home plate and they got the last out to the delight of a roaring crowd of proud spectators.
This was the last regulation game of the season and recognized seniors Jason Little, Tripp Richardson, Luke Taylor, Braxton Daniels, Douglas Crews, Zack Winters and Sullivan Harold.
The Eagles will host the first round of play-offs on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21.
