Sixty talented performers from elementary school age to senior citizens. Hundreds of colorful costumes to create. Hours and hours of rehearsal time put in at the Ritz Theatre reception room and on its stage. Lyrics to memorize and choreography to master. Props to gather and backdrops to paint. Lighting and sound to adjust before the big opening . . .
It’s all part of the annual extravaganza known as “Putting on the Ritz,” the musical fundraiser for the Greenville Area Arts Council (GAAC). The 11th annual event is set for April 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. each night. This year’s theme is “Don’t Miss the Magic,” revolving around all things Disney.
“We have several new cast members joining the Ritz Players and Ritz Kids this year and we are so excited to be able to showcase some of this talent for the first time in our community. And we are also thrilled to see so many of our veterans returning to our stage,” says GAAC excutive director and POTR director, Nancy Idland.
The show promises to be a crowd pleaser, Idland says.
“Our Disney show from a few years ago was one of our most popular, and we decided to re-visit some of their wonderful characters and songs this year.”
From “The Lion King” to “Beauty and the Beast,” and “The Little Mermaid” to “Tangled” and “Pocahontas,” the latest edition of POTR will bring beloved tunes from all these Disney classics and more to the Ritz stage later this month.
“So be sure you don’t miss the magic—come join us at the Ritz,” says Idland.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at The Pineapple and are $20 for adults and $15 for students.
