After 18 years, more than 1,800 issues of the Advocate, and countless hours spent proofing news pages and specialty publications, this is my final issue as publisher of The Greenville Advocate.

I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with some talented folks over the years.  From reporters, editors, marketing consultants, circulation directors, bookkeepers and office managers and publishers to photographers and newspaper carriers, the Advocate has been home to some of the industry’s most talented individuals.

Producing a twice weekly newspaper, a weekly shopper, three weekly newspapers, and monthly special sections and magazines is no small feat, and each and every person of our small, close-knit staff has played an important role in making Greenville Newspapers a success. 

The Advocate has always strived to produce publications that appeal to all of our readers, advertising partners and community.

During my tenure, the Advocate has been recognized by the Alabama Press Association as one of state’s top newspapers of its size for 10 consecutive years.  A lot of hard work and dedication goes into producing award-winning publications and it’s been an honor to be a part of such a quality organization.

I’ve had a chance to meet a lot of people because of my career in the newspaper business.  I have met a lot of good people that I consider good friends and have had exceptional mentors along the way for whom I am truly thankful.

I will begin a new chapter in my life effective April 30, as I begin my new role as executive director for the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce.  I am excited to continue to serve a community that I truly love. 

Greenville is a successful, thriving community, and I look forward to building on the solid foundation already in place at the Chamber of Commerce thanks to Francine Wasden’s 11 years of leadership in the director’s role.   While I’m looking forward to the opportunity to spend more time with my family and enjoy the sidelines of a football game (without jotting down stats or taking pictures), I will miss the Advocate and my coworkers who have made it a wonderful place to come to work each and every day.  The pace is hectic and everything is due yesterday, but it has been awesome. 

As I write this last column, I’m reminded of how truly blessed I am to have had the opportunity to work alongside a talented group of people at the Advocate and around the community.   

So, I won’t really say farewell, as I’ll be seeing you all soon.
