The inaugural meeting of the Greenville Young Professionals organization attracted representatives from a diverse range of professions to hear the potential benefits of joining the group.

GYP co-founders Casey Rogers and Ethan Gregory used the gathering to elaborate on their reasons for starting the group and present details regarding membership requirements and organizational goals, such as providing networking opportunities and encouraging GYP members to join other community organizations.

According to the founders, GYP was formed in part to “attract, retain, and further the interests of young professionals in Greenville.”

Official membership is open to anyone in Butler County between the ages of 21 to 40, while affiliate membership is available to anyone from 16 to 20. 

“The affiliate membership is mainly for students… the ultimate goal of that is a mentorship program, for students from all the high schools in Butler County and LBW, to encourage young people to not just leave Greenville but to stay here, do good things, and contribute to the community,” Gregory said.

“It’s about serving as a way to get young people involved in the community… and be active participants,” he added

Rogers agreed, saying “Greenville Young Professionals was founded to help facilitate the collaboration of emerging professionals into the culture, community and commitment to lead Greenville, Alabama for future generations.”

The first meeting, held at Wintzell’s in Greenville, attracted over 30 prospective members.

Gregory expressed excitement at the turnout of the first meeting, saying, “it was a very good sign… I think people realize that this community needs things to help get the youth more active.”
