First Baptist Church of Greenville held its annual Discipleship-Now Weekend on March 2-4. Discipleship-Now is a weekend-long retreat for youth, grades 7th-12th. The event includes worship, games, and bible study classes. Youth Minister Marc Edge said, “We focused on what it truly means to abide in Christ.”
The theme for the weekend was “Abide.” An estimated total of 30 high school and college students took part in the weekend.
“At D-Now we target two groups—those that are disciples trying to live out their faith and those that need to become disciples of Christ,” added Edge.
This weekend was a chance for spiritual growth for the students and the leaders, alike. Led by Brandon Rose, the guest speaker for the weekend, worships services took place both nights. Pursuit Ministries band, a student-led ministry at Troy University, led the worship songs for the event.
Rose said, “Though I have only been coming to Greenville for two years now, I love its people and its community. It has been a blessing to come down here to share the gospel of light and hope.”
Saturday afternoon, the youth took part in a service project around town. From playing bingo with residents at the nursing home to helping with local non-profits, the students enjoyed serving in the area.
All in all, this weekend was a success. Edge said, “This weekend was a chance for the students and adults to come together as a church and grow in their walk with Christ. I am very grateful for all those that helped with the event.”
