FDA girls host, win regional tourney

The varsity basketball teams at Fort Dale Academy hosted the regional championship tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week.
The varsity boys had their first game on Thursday night and was ousted by the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots 56-43.
The Eagles then joined the student section and cheered the girls on to victory on Friday and Saturday, and the girls are going on to the next round of play in Montgomery .
The varsity girls went up against Lakeside on Friday and defeated them 51-29. Their next victim was Northside from Dothan, and the Eagles won 55-39.
In the game with Lakeside, Anna Blake Langford was the leading scorer with 22 points–two of those being 3-point baskets. Lucy Bates was on Langford’s heels with 18 points, and Bailey Coker netted 7. The girls were 9 of 11 at the free throw line.
The Northside game against Dothan saw Anna Blake Langford again in the point lead, with 16- with four of them being 3-point baskets. Alex Little netted 13 points with four of those baskets being three pointers. Lucy Bates earned 12 points and Bailey Coker had 8.
The girls were 8 of 14 at the free throw line.
Outstanding offensive and defensive playing earned the trophy for the Eagles for the area championship, with Northside of Dothan being in the runner-up position.
Both teams advance to state championship play, which will begin on Thursday in Montgomery.
