For those in our community battling the demons of addiction and other societal woes, Aletheia House offers a second chance.

Since 1972, the Aletheia House has offered substance abuse treatment as well as counseling services to communities across Alabama. 

The organization formed after a dedicated group of individuals worked closely together to help those on the streets in Birmingham.

This non-profit group is now one of Alabama’s largest drug and alcohol treatment providers, and one of several branches is located in downtown Greenville.

Aletheia House’s mission statement is “To empower individuals, and the communities in which they live, with the skills and services they need to be responsible for their own well-being.”

By teaching individuals to be independent, this program works diligently to ensure a positive outcome. Aletheia House offers substance abuse treatment, substance abuse/HIV prevention, employment services and affordable housing. 

Currently, there are locations in Andalusia, Greenville and Luverne.

Therapist Tracy Jones said, “We provide services to men and women with children. We have a program in Andalusia called ‘Women’s Hope’. [It] serves our mothers, offering group and individual counseling. With this program, we also reach people in Georgiana and Evergreen.”

Chief Operating Officer Gloria Howard said, “ This [Women’s Hope] is an incredible opportunity for us to give women and their children everything they need to succeed in an environment that makes them feel safe and loved.”

Butler County DHR attempts to provide the best help for each of their clients, and sometimes Aletheia House is part of that solution.

Butler County DHR Director Jennifer Langford said, “We do a thorough assessment of our clients, if we feel drug or alcohol addiction is an issue, then we do refer them to the Aletheia House. We have seen positive results.”

Jones explained that in Butler County, the Aletheia House depends mostly on the Court Referral Officers and DHR to find the individuals in need of help. Each individual at DHR is assessed based on the problem or a need.

While not all clients are sent to the Aletheia House, these services are used when needed. One anonymous client receiving help here in Greenville said, “You are getting a second chance to do life right.” The anonymous client added, “[It is] helpful to the community; unfortunately, it seems you do not learn about it until you end up in the court system.” The Greenville branch has been open for five years and welcomes all individuals.

“You come here with a problem, but you walk out with a solution,” the client said.
