T.R. Miller routs Lady Panthers

The Lady Panthers of Georgiana were the latest to fall in the wake of the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers, who remain perfect in girls varsity action after a 71-24 win on Georgiana’s home court Thursday.

The harassing defense and quick hands of the Lady Tigers snowballed out of control as Georgiana turnovers paved the way for T.R. Miller buckets.  By halftime, the Lady Tigers had built a considerable 38-12 lead.

The Lady Tigers’ lead only grew in the second with a barrage of 3-pointers from T.R. Miller’s guards helped pour 20 more points in the third quarter.

Without one of its stars, Tenasia Gordon, who missed the action due to an injury, the Lady Panthers lacked the firepower to exchange with T.R. Miller’s team full of sharpshooters.

Mia Crenshaw and Amaya Jackson led the Lady Panthers with 6 points each.

The loss drops the Lady Panthers to 1-3 on the season.

Georgiana will be back in action on the road at Straughn High School Monday.

Boys varsity avenge girls in blowout

The Georgiana varsity boys looked like Panther teams of old Thursday night at home in a convincing 72-45 rout of the visiting T.R. Miller Tigers.

In a marked improvement over the Panthers’ season opener just two days prior, Georgiana’s signature full-court pressure harassed the Tigers endlessly, preying on careless passes and converting turnovers into easy Panther points.

The Tigers kept it close in the first despite an opening salvo of offense from Jamichael Stallworth, who has seemingly added an NBA-regulation 3-pointer to his arsenal.

Stallworth’s long-distance bucket was followed by a rare potential 4-point play from Keinderus Mobley, though struggles at the free throw line for the Panthers kept their lead in check heading into the second.

The Tigers soon began to succumb to the Panther pressure, however, as successive fast-break buckets put Georgiana up by as much as 16 just before the half.

The second half proved more of the same, as the Panthers opened the third with a 6-0 run that made an already sizeable lead seem insurmountable.

Joshua Jolly took over for the Tigers, drawing a series of Georgiana fouls and whittling away at the Panther lead in the process.

A Shiv Patel 3-pointer cut the deficit to 13 at the height of the Tigers’ second-half momentum.

But T.R. Miller’s parade was dampened by a torrent of Georgiana 3-pointers, including a back-to-back pair from Mobley and a casual buzzer beater from Stallworth to end the third quarter with a commanding 27-point lead.

The Georgiana offense did not relent in the fourth quarter as the 3-pointer fever spread to Dalvin Dix, Lecedric Haynes and others to round out an impressive offensive showcase for the Panthers.

Stallworth led the Panthers with 21 points, followed by 13 points and 11 rebounds from Montavious Payton and 10 points from Keinderus Mobley.

Georgiana climbs to 2-0 after facing its second straight Class 3A opponent.

The Panthers will travel to Straughn High School on Monday, Dec. 4.
