We have a lot of small business owners in our county who don’t necessarily have a brick and mortar location, and some of them are coming together this weekend to offer attendees a chance to learn more about their products and services and to sign up for valuable prizes.

It’s called “Small Business Glamour Day” and it’s being held from 8 a.m. until noon at the Greenville YMCA this Saturday, Nov. 4.

I know several of the ladies involved in the event, and I know how much they believe in what they sell. And there will be everything from cosmetics and candles to clothing for kids and adults alike available to purchase/order.  Sawdust Confetti will have some of their really cute, handcrafted seasonal signs, too—I’ve checked them out at other events—just a little bit of something for everyone.

So consider stopping by the Y this Saturday and visiting with some of the city’s and county’s hard-working and enthusiastic entrepreneurs. You can do some early holiday shopping and help small businesses right in your own community. That’s a definite win-win situation.

There are also opportunities on the way to support worthy causes in the county. Next Friday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. St. Thomas Episcopal Church is hosting its annual bake sale, with the proceeds going to the church’s holiday outreach projects in the community.

I visited with these ladies a few weeks ago in the hustle and bustle of the church’s kitchen, where the scent was downright heavenly. They’ve been whipping up casseroles, cakes, pies, cheesecake, breads and much more—you can buy and store in the freezer for the holidays!

In previous years, the ladies would pre-sell their baked goods and frankly, the church members knew a good thing when they saw it and snapped up most of the goodies. That’s all changing this year—it’s first come, first serve, with no pre-selling of these tasty treats.

So have your checkbook or cash in hand and head over to St. Thomas’s next Friday—another win-win situation for the holidays!

Also coming up in November is McKenzie’s Holiday Market, set for Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school gym.

There will be lots of vendors to browse, plus fun activities for the kids. Booth rental and admission fees all go to the McKenzie Quarterback Club, which, contrary to its name, actually offers support to all school sports programs and not just football. Again, this is an event featuring a lot of small business owners, so your purchases help them; your attendance helps the school and you score a chance to bag some great buys and unique Christmas gifts. Win-win-win!
