One Greenville family braved the sweltering heat of an Alabama Summer Wednesday in an effort to prove that one is never too young to make a difference.

Andy and Jennifer Brown, and their two-year-old daughter, Olivia, set up a lemonade stand near their home in an effort to raise funds for Lifeline Children’s Services, an adoption agency based in Hoover, Ala.

The organization’s new initiative, Stand for Orphans, puts the power in the hands of children to make a difference and raise funds through various means, whether it be stands that sell lemonade, cookies, cupcakes, dog treats or handmaid crafts. The money raised is given to Lifeline Children’s Services for the purpose of funding birth mother, foster care and orphan care ministries in countries beyond the United States, and also for covering the expenses of the adoption agency.

Andy Brown said that though his daughter is a bit too young to fully comprehend what she’s a part of, he wanted her to take part nonetheless in the hopes that she would eventually see the impact she’s made.

“Because Olivia is adopted, we want her to know that’s a part of her story, and we want her to always understand that and be proud of that,” Brown said.

“She may not be old enough this year to understand, but it’s something she can do to help.”

Several thirsty Greenville residents made their way to the Browns’ lemonade stand Wednesday as Olivia collected money and delivered refreshment in exchange.  The family raised $102 and, paired with a donation of their own, will be sending more than $200 to Lifeline Children’s Services.
