Nine unanswered runs from the Greenville 10U All-Stars propelled the youth team to a 10-5 victory over a tough visiting Andalusia Bulldogs team.

The win secured the district championship for Greenville.

The game, originally scheduled for last Tuesday night, had its date shuffled around courtesy of Tropical Storm Cindy, which ultimately delayed it four days to Friday evening.

The delay did little to cool Greenville’s bats as the 10U team jumped out with an early 1-0 lead after an Andalusia error in the opening inning.

The second inning belonged entirely to Andalusia, however, as a sacrificial bunt and a double put the Bulldogs up 2-1.

The same couldn’t be said for Greenville in the bottom of the second as bats struggled to connect.  Two strikeouts ended the inning—and a chance for retaliation—early.

Another Andalusia double brought two more home as momentum for the Bulldogs climbed, and a stolen base upped the Andalusia advantage to four runs with a 5-1 lead.

But a switch in pitchers signaled a shift in momentum for Greenville as the defense stopped the bleeding at the source.  The defensive breather gave Greenville’s offense an opportunity to cut into the Andalusia lead, as a pair of singles gave Greenville a run at the bottom of the third.

Greenville poured it on in the fourth inning with three runs on two hits and an Andalusia error bringing the score to 5-5.

With momentum firmly on Greenville’s side, a stellar defensive inning—led by two strikeouts—fueled a continued assault from Greenville bats as the 10U team mounted five more runs for a comfortable lead.

And though the Bulldogs got a one-out walk near the game’s close, they were unable to convert it into a run.
