Authorities are searching for answers, courtesy of an after-hours incident that left the Chapman post office riddled with bullet holes Tuesday night.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned passerby Wednesday morning regarding a possible break-in at the post office in the Chapman community.
However, when authorities arrived at the scene, it was discovered that the building had not been broken into, but had instead been shot several times during the night.
“There was busted glass, and damage to some property inside,” said Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden.
“Though no one was there to hurt, as the shooting took place when the post office was closed.”
Harden said that an investigation is still ongoing, and he added that the department could use help from the surrounding community to solve the case.
“We’re asking if anyone saw anyone there last night, or even if they saw a car parked there in the parking lot,” Harden said.
“If anyone has any knowledge of who did the shooting, please contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office at 334-382-6521.”
