In the Red Level baseball tournament the Luverne Tigers fell, losing two games out of three. In the first game the Luverne Tigers defeated Red Level 10-9.
Freshman Andrew Williams obtained his first varsity win. “I was proud of him,” said Head Coach Brad Horn. “He threw five innings. He gave up two runs, but both were unearned”.
Senior Marquese Davison went three for four at the plate, helping to lead the Tigers to a win.
Coach Horn says the players were not on their game during the first part of the tournament.
“I feel as though we did not come out focused, and played as a team on Monday,” Horn said. “Despite the losses on Tuesday, the team played harder and worked together more as a team.”
In the second game, the Tigers were defeated by Highland Home 3-1.
The Tigers held on strong, but the Squadron came through at the bottom of the sixth when they scored one run.
Tay Brantley took the loss for Luverne. Brantley pitched five innings, surrendered three runs, five hits, struck out one, and walked one.
Antavious Brown and Blake Meadows collected multiple hits for the Luverne Tigers.
Despite the hard work, Flomaton got the better of the Luverne Tigers, defeating them 11-4 in the last game of the tournament.
Flomaton took the lead in the second inning due to an error.
Sophomore, Toby Powell took the loss for the Tigers. He pitched two and a third innings, gave up five runs, two hits, and struck out three.
Even though the tigers took a hard loss Davison and Brown each drove one run to lead the Tigers.
For the upcoming games Horn says the players must decide how they play.
“This comes down to the players wanting to better themselves and come together as a team,” Horn said.
Luverne Tiger baseball record is currently 12-6.
The Tigers will face off against the Straughn Tigers Monday in Straughn, and the Goshen Eagles Thursday and Friday.
Although the Lady Tiger softball team has not played this week they have been diligently practicing for the face off against Goshen on Monday, Ariton on Tuesday and Thursday against Elba. The Thursday game is Senior Night.
