Haywood S. Hartley

Haywood S. Hartley, 86, of Cape Coral, Fla. passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. He was born June 12, 1930, in Greenville, Ala., to Frank Marion Hartley and Evie Lee Adams Hartley.
Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruby Beasley, Evelyn Knox and Jeanette Hartley; and brother Joe Hartley. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Christine “Chris” Hartley; daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Kay Hartley Chavis (Tony); grandsons, Dodd Skipper (Sheri) and Matthew Osterhout; great-granddaughter, April Skipper; brother, Jerry Hartley (Harriet); and sisters, Minnie Webb (Edward) and Barbara-Ann Lowery (Melvin).
Mr. Hartley, while raising his daughter with his wife of 67 years, supervised at Boss Manufacturing in Greenville. After that he became manager of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Lanette, Ala. He then moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where he and his wife served as managers of a local toy store, much to the delight of his grandson. They then owned Swiss Colony Cheese stores until moving to Cape Coral, Fla., to be with their daughter and grandsons, where Mr. Hartley worked at Publix Supermarkets for 18 years before retiring. One of Mr. Hartley’s most prized possessions was his red 1964 Ford Stepside pickup truck, which he enjoyed driving his grandchildren around town in. His most prized possession, however, was his family.
Visitation will be held at Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home on March 25, 2017 at 10 a.m. with funeral service following at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home with Reverend Ronnie Boulware officiating and Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home directing. It will be followed by brief graveside service at Antioch East Baptist Church Cemetery.
