The Lady Tiger Softball team took home a win against Highland Home 15-0 on Monday.

Freshman Libbey Jones took the circle for the Tigers, and recorded five shutout innings.

Head Coach Jason Easterling says he was very proud of the way the girls played.

“I thought we played very well,” Easterling said. “The girls were very loose before the game, and they played that way.”

Aniyah Burnette, Mackenzie Carlos, and Zanna Bloodsworth scored multiple hits to help secure the win. Carlos led the Tigers with six runs.

“We wanted to be aggressive in the box, and it paid off,” Easterling said. “We hit the ball hard, top to bottom.”

On the contrary, the Lady Tigers suffered a defeat last Thursday against the Zion Chapel Rebels 9-4.

Easterling says was not satisfied in the way his team played.

“The two games against The Rebels were very frustrating,” Easterling said. “We felt like we beat ourselves in both games”

Luverne had 22 errors against Zion Chapel. Easterling says that the girls are going to work harder.

“I challenged our girls to clean it up,” he said. “I feel like we’re doing that.”

The Luverne High School baseball team hosted their first area game last Thursday against the Calhoun Tigers, winning 18-0. During game one, Sophomore Eric Zaragoza pitched a one hit, shutout game for the Tigers. They went on to also win the second 16-5.

Monday, The Tigers renewed their inter-county rivalry against the bulldogs, but suffered a disappointing loss.

After a getting off to a quick 1-0 start, and taking the lead into the third inning, the Bulldogs battled back and scored five runs on the Tigers in later innings.

In upcoming events, the softball team will play Charles Henderson High School on Thursday, March 23.

The baseball team will play Lee High School the same day. The varsity baseball team will travel to Red Level to play in the Red Level Tournament on March 27-28.
