With pageant season in full swing, Crenshaw County will hold it’s first ever Miss Crenshaw County pageant.
“There has never been a Miss Crenshaw County,” pageant director Conleigh Gilmore said. “It is something that I have been working on for a long time, and this year I was able to get everything together.”
The contests will have 10 divisions ranging from ages two months to 23 years old, with the Little Miss and Miss Crenshaw County visions being qualifiers at the National Peanut Festival in Dothan, Ala.
Gilmore says that pageants are a good ways for girls to see new things, and learn.
“Pageants represent being yourself, and being transparent,” she said. “It helps you to learn to be 100 percent who you are.”
Gilmore is also the pageant director for the Miss Pike County pageant. She says she became interested in starting the pageant through meeting Crenshaw County girls at the Miss Pike County pageant.
“I knew a lot of girls who were interested in competing in Pike County, but you can only compete if you live or go to school in Pike County,” she said.
For the Little Miss and Miss Crenshaw division, participants must be from Crenshaw County or go to school in the county. All other divisions are open to anyone.
The qualifier divisions will be judged on interview, verbal, photogenic and evening gown.
“I would absolutely love for the first ever Miss Crenshaw County to do her best, and possibly win Miss National Peanut Festival to make history for Crenshaw County,” Gilmore said.
The Miss Crenshaw County Pageant will be held on Sunday, April 2 at 5 p.m. at Crenshaw Christian Academy. The last day to register is Friday, March 25.
