Three minors have been arrested and charged in connection to a January robbery of an elderly woman on Highway 50.
“On Feb. 3, we were able to make arrests on all three suspects,” said Butler County sheriff Kenny Harden.
“They’ve been placed in the county jail. They are juveniles, so all I can tell you is that two of them are 17 years old and one of them is 16. They’re being charged with first-degree robbery, possession of marijuana, third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property.
“That’s a good day for us, when we can get somebody off the streets like that.”
Nearly a month ago on Jan. 18, Harden said that the sheriff’s office received a call a little after 11 a.m. notifying them that an elderly woman had been robbed at gunpoint on Highway 50 at a location near Pigeon Creek Bridge.
“We responded to the call out there, and what happened was that she was traveling on Highway 50 when the people in front of her slammed on brakes,” Harden said.
“She had to slide to keep from hitting them, and when she got stopped three black males jumped out with guns and robbed her.”
She was robbed of an undisclosed amount of her personal property, and the three suspects fled in a small gray or silver-colored car.
The woman was sent to the hospital following the incident for a customary checkup, though it was eventually revealed that she was unharmed.
Harden added that in the weeks to follow, the investigation failed to yield a relationship between the suspects and the victim.
“They made a comment that ‘she should have a lot of money,’” Harden said when asked about the three suspects’ motive.
“That’s when they decided to stop and rob her.”
