Recently, the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office gave an updated report on the registered sex offenders in Crenshaw County.
“I think the highest we’ve ever had was 60. It fluctuates between 50 and 60,” said Crenshaw County Sheriff Mickey Powell.
“We go around and check on our sex offenders often to make sure they are living where they are supposed to be living.”
Powell noted that there currently are 55 registered sex offenders in the county that are registered on the books of the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office.
“The sex offenders report here to us every three months. They have to pay a $10 reporting fee every three months. If they fail to report, we put them in jail,” Powell said.
“If they move, they have to notify my office prior to moving, and we send out flyers to people within a one mile radius or 2,000 feet radius of where they will be.”
The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office hopes to soon have a website up and running which will feature a detailed list and photograph of every registered sex offender in Crenshaw County.
