The Greenville varsity boys’ home court was an uninviting place this week as the Tigers shellacked a pair of visitors, Charles Henderson on Tuesday and Central Hayneville Thursday, by convincing margins.

The Trojans of Charles Henderson kept it close in the first quarter, thanks to sharpshooters from behind the 3-point line, but a buzzer-beater 3-point response from Charles Warren shushed the Charles Henderson stands as the first quarter closed with a  Greenville 4-point lead.

Tremendous offensive rebounding set the tone for the Tigers in the second quarter, while a smothering Greenville defense simultaneously took its toll on the Charles Henderson backcourt.

Careless Trojan passes turned into scoring opportunities for the Tigers as the Greenville lead swelled.  Warren continued to make the Trojans’ defense pay from behind the arc and beyond with a back-to-back 3-pointer and a 3-point play on subsequent possessions.

An antsy Trojans defense continued jumping at shadows as Greenville guard Trydarius Patton drew fouls on three separate 3-point attempts.

The Greenville defensive wall only strengthened in the fourth with frequent full-court traps forcing Charles Henderson turnovers and easy Tiger buckets, culminating in an 80-59 victory.

It was a similar story for the visiting Central Hayneville Lions Thursday as the Greenville defense created a myriad of problems, forcing 30 turnovers on 14 steals that paved the way to a commanding 97-66 win.

The Tigers saw a number of contributions from various role players, including 28 points and 8 rebounds from Charles Warren, 12 points and 7 rebounds from Tyler Stone, 11 points from Malik Bunch and 10 assists courtesy of Romontez Rhodes.

Rhodes accounted for 40 percent of the Tigers’ total 25 assists on 37 made field goals.

The pair of wins improved the Tigers to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in area play.

The Tigers will face the Charles Henderson Trojans once again Tuesday, this time in Trojan territory, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
