This past weekend, the Brantley High School Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs both brought home tournament wins after competing at Zion Chapel.

“I thought we played really well. We came together as a team. Our quality of opponents isn’t really good right now, but it’s really doing us a lot of good to get some wins,” said BHS Girls Varsity coach Roland Jones.

The Lady Bulldogs took a victory in the first game against Kinston with a victory of 52-30. Leading the way for Brantley against Kinston was Kassidy Wilcox with 20 points, Aliyah Person with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Olivia Jones with 11 points.

In the second round, the Lady Bulldogs faced off against Zion Chapel and arose victorious at 58-13.

Tuesday night, BHS travelled to Elba; the Lady Bulldogs walked away victorious at 51-37. Leading the way for BHS against Elba was Elizabeth Bush with 11 points, Olivia Jones with 10 points and Laniey Wells with 12 rebounds.

Currently, the Lady Bulldogs boast a season record of 8-2, and they will play again on Friday at home in the Brantley Christmas Tournament.

The varsity boys team started off the tournament by taking on Zion Chapel and bringing home a victory of 84-41.

Leading the way against Zion Chapel was Adrian Person, Jr., with 25 points, six rebounds and five steals. Parker Driggers added in 15 points, five steals and five rebounds, D’Andre Sinclair had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Mick Beverly had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

In the second round, BHS faced off against the Highland Home Flying Squadron and took home a victory of 65-32.

“I thought the guys came out and played really well. I thought we kept our focus throughout the game,” said BHS Boys Varsity coach Andre Parks.

“I was really happy with how our guys stayed under control. Defensively, I thought we played maybe one of our best games. I was very pleased with how we played overall. That was the championship game in the Zion Chapel Tournament, and I thought it was a good win for us, especially early in the season.”

Tuesday night, the Bulldogs travelled to Elba and were defeated 61-50, but not without putting up a tough fight. Leading the way against Elba was Person Jr., with 20 points and five steals, followed by Driggers with 10 points and four steals and Sinclair with 10 points and eight rebounds.

“Elba is a super athletic team, but it was a two-point game late in the fourth quarter. They won, but I was really pleased with the way our guys played and competed,” Parks said.

“I think playing games like that on the road in a hostile environment early in the season will pay dividends for us come January. I really don’t think that the score of the game was any indication of how the game was played.”

The Bulldogs currently boast a season record of 4-2. This weekend the Bulldogs will play again on Friday at home in the Brantley Christmas Tournament.
