Monday night, the 1A Brantley High School Bulldogs took to the court to challenge the New Brockton Gamecocks in their first home games.

“I thought we picked it up on defense and really pressured the ball and put them in a bind,” said BHS girls coach Roland Jones.

“Emory Bush had a great night and that really compelled us to the victory against New Brockton. We’re getting better each game we play. We still have a long ways to go.”

The Lady Bulldogs effortlessly blew the competition away with a final score of 52-15. The boys, however, were forced to fight tooth and nail to gain their lead and keep it throughout the night.

After securing their lead in the first period, the Lady Bulldogs’ score continued to rise until the game’s end at 52-15.

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Emory Bush with 14 points and 10 steals. Following close behind with 12 points was Olivia Jones, with 11 points was Kassidy Wilcox and with 10 rebounds was Aliyah Person.

After taking on the Zion Chapel Rebels Tuesday night, the Lady Bulldogs are now 3-2 for the season. Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Olivia Jones and Wilcox at nine points each, with Aliyah Person following at eight points and 10 rebounds.

“Against Zion Chapel, we actually won the game playing good defense. We didn’t shoot the ball very well, we missed several shots, but defensively we played hard and got after it. That helped us to get the victory,” coach Jones said.

The Lady Bulldogs will have off for the rest of the week and will pick back up on Tuesday, Dec. 6 travelling to New Brockton.

Throughout the first and second periods of the boys game, the Bulldogs kept their lead over the Gamecocks, ending the second period at 34-25.

Charging into the third period, the Gamecocks kicked it up a notch, which put the Bulldogs on their toes. With the third coming to a close, the score was tied 43-43 until a two-point shot from Parker Driggers pushed the Bulldogs ahead. As the buzzer sounded, ending the third, another two-point shot by Adrian Person, Jr., brought the Bulldogs ahead at 47-43. With this lead, the Bulldogs prepared for the final stretch.

The Bulldogs once again found themselves in a tied game at 48-48 with six minutes left in the game.

After successfully completing two free throws, Adrian Person, Jr., secured the lead for the Bulldogs at 50-48. From there, the score continued to rise in favor of the Bulldogs, until one final free throw from Driggers brought the game to a close at 60-54 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Leading the way in all scores for the Bulldogs was Driggers with 27 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Following close behind was Adrian Person, Jr., with 26 points, five rebounds and four steals and D’Andre Sinclair with six points and 12 boards.
