Crenshaw County celebrated its 150th birthday with a bash that had residents grooving all night.

This past Saturday, the Crenshaw County Chamber of Commerce and the County Commission came together to host the 150th Birthday Celebration for the county.

Beginning at 11 a.m., vendors and amusement were available for residents to enjoy.

“We had 17 vendors,” Chamber President Donnie Nix said. “In all of our activities the chamber aspires to enhance business opportunity, and improve the quality of life for our citizens of Crenshaw County.”

The County Commission assembled the entertainment for the night. The line up included 10 performers, with DJ Necessary pumping out tunes the entire day.

Acts included: Mary Sarah of The Voice fame, Rolling Smoke, River Dan, LA Road Trip, James Mullis, Benjie and Friends and the Crenshaw Community Choir.

“I think its one of the best free concerts this county will see,” Commissioner Merrill Sport said.

Mary Sarah, recently seen on NBC’s The Voice, served as the headliner for the event. Sarah, originally from Texas, currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, and began her musical career at the age of 9. Her professional career began at the age of 12 when she toured with Kids Bop.

“The Voice was so fun and was such a growing experience. My booking agent mentioned that Crenshaw County had inquired about us, and I thought it looked like a fun and great thing,” she said.

“If you love something and want to do it, there’s always a way to. My advice is to put yourself out there. Social media opens doors, and show your personality and who you are as a person.”

The celebration boasted over 300 attendees for the event, which lasted 12 hours.

“It was a great joint venture,” Sport said.

“The Chamber handled most of the morning activities, and the commission did the night ones. It took a joint effort to stretch it out 12 hours.”

The celebration was the final event of the year for Crenshaw County’s 150th birthday.
