The Georgiana junior varsity girls basketball team remain undefeated on the heels of a convincing 45-10 win over the Andalusia Bulldogs.
The unstoppable duo of Tenasia Gordon and Ashante Marshall combined for 30 points Thursday evening as the former lit the Andalusia defense up from beyond the arc while the latter used her height advantage for easy inside buckets.
Two back-to-back threes from Gordon secured an early 16-5 cushion for Georgiana, followed by a third three and a three-point play gave the Panthers a 27-10 lead at the half.
The second half was more of the first, with a redoubled intensity from the Georgiana defense.
The Panthers held Andalusia scoreless throughout the entire second half to clinch their seventh consecutive victory.
Gordon led Georgiana with 19 points, followed by 11 points from Marshall.
JV Boys defeat Bulldogs
The junior varsity boys had a tougher fight on their hands, thanks to some difficulty capitalizing on trips to the free throw line. But the Panthers still prevailed over the visiting Andalusia Bulldogs.
A two-man weave between Quentin Hamilton and Azenda Pennington ended a three-minute stalemate between the Panthers and Bulldogs nearly halfway through an extremely defensive first quarter.
A three-pointer from Pennington ended a Georgiana drought at the start of the second quarter to give the Panthers a small lead and some breathing room.
A second three-pointer from Davontia Walker opened up a 9-point lead.
A three-point play at the top of the third kept Andalusia in the contest, which prompted a 5-0 run that cut the Georgiana lead to just 5.
But it was as close as the Bulldogs would come to infringing on the Panthers’ lead.
A sloppy fourth quarter from both teams ended in a mad scramble as the final minute ticked off the clock, but the Panthers’ defense remained resilient and earned a 36-28 victory.
