“I think we made a major improvement in that game, especially on the defensive side of the ball,” said Brantley High School senior quarterback Jacob Free.

“I think Friday night was the turning point in our season. I think that gave us a huge boost going into this week against Red Level.”

In what has been described by Free as the turning point in the Bulldog’s season, last Friday’s game against Houston County proved to be eventful as the Bulldogs brought home a 44-14 victory.

“We did a lot better, really in all phases of the game,” said BHS Head Coach Ashley Kilcrease.

“We seemed to play a lot harder than we’ve played in the last couple of weeks, I thought. We had a lot more intensity.”

The first touchdown for the Bulldogs came from junior running back Mack Wise with a 3-yard run. An extra point was earned with a kick by senior defensive end Tucker Owens, bringing the score up to 7-0.

Going into the second quarter, the Bulldogs kept their lead at 7-6, but a 26-yard field goal scored by junior tight end Nathan Renfroe pushed the Bulldogs ahead 10-6.

Shortly following that score, junior wide receiver Adrian Person, Jr., completed a 12-yard pass from Free. An extra point with a kick was earned by Owens, which brought the Bulldogs even further into the lead at 17-6.

In the third quarter, the Bulldogs seemed unstoppable as they successfully achieved a 65-yard run touchdown by Wise with an extra point earned by Owens, a 1-yard run touchdown by Free with an extra point earned by Owens and an 82-yard touchdown pass from Free to senior wide receiver  Tommy Spivey with no extra point earned.

With the score now 37-6, the Bulldogs headed into the final quarter of the game.

Scoring the final touchdown of the game was Free with a 1-yard run and an extra point earned with a kick from Owens; the Bulldogs brought home the victory with a final score of 44-14.

“In my opinion, the most memorable highlight of the game was when D’Andre Sinclair made a big hit against one of the Houston County players on a pass play, and all of the players ran over to him and congratulated him. We need more of that as our season continues,” Free said.

The Bulldogs hope to take the intensity and force they brought to their last game and bring it to the field this Friday against Red Level.

“Our intensity was our biggest positive; that’s what we were most pleased with,” Kilcrease said.

“This week is another region game. Our goal now is to win the rest of our games and this is the next one. We have to be prepared mentally. Red Level is someone we feel like we play well, especially at home. We just have to continue to improve.”
