Greenville Check into Cash and Safe Harbor are looking to make a few families’ holiday season a bit heartier, with a little help from the community.
The two organizations are teaming up to host a canned food drive, which is currently underway and slated to end on Nov. 21, for those in need within the Butler County community.
Check into Cash manager Lateya Barganier said that, beyond the ultimate goal of helping the county’s less fortunate members, the canned goods drive is also an opportunity for more community involvement for the company.
“It’s basically to show that we’re not just a financing company,” Barganier said. “We’re here to help people in our community.”
Check into Cash will be setting up multiple boxes within their business and will ask customers for the following weeks if they’d like to donate canned goods and other non-perishable items to Safe Harbor.
At the conclusion of the drive on Nov. 21, those goods will be turned over to Safe Harbor director Kathy Smyth, where they will then be redistributed to families.
For Barganier, the canned goods drive seemed like a natural extension of the services that Check into Cash already provides.
“I’ve always been involved with the community, especially in Greenville because it’s my hometown, but I’m always up for helping people,” Barganier said. “And our business is all about growing and helping people anyway.
“And we realized, too, that there are a lot of people around here in need. It’s the perfect time of the year to do that kind of stuff.”
The canned goods drive is the first of many planned programs for Check into Cash, though the details on future plans aren’t yet finalized.
“We’ve got a few other projects that we’re working on, too, like a First Responders Day. We haven’t gotten a date set for that yet,” Barganier said.
“We’re basically showing our appreciation for them. They very rarely get the appreciation they deserve. We’re trying to put our name out there for everybody to know and say ‘hey, those people at Check into Cash care about us, and if we need help, we know who we can go to now.’ We’re just starting something new.”
Check into Cash is located at 631 Willow Lane in Greenville, and their operating hours are from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. (10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays).
