The City of Luverne will hold a runoff election next Tuesday, Oct. 4, for the offices of Mayor of Luverne and City Council District Four.

For the office of mayor, a runoff election will be held between Ed Beasley, who received 367 total votes at 39 percent in the recent election, and Alan Carpenter, who received 379 total votes at 40 percent in the recent election.

For the office of City Council District Four, the runoff election will be held between Elliott Jones, who received 107 votes in the recent election, and Robyn Snellgrove, who received 94 votes in the recent election.

According to the 2010 census, the population of Luverne averaged 2,800. As of July 21, there were 1,936 total registered voters in the City of Luverne. Roughly 40 percent of registered voters in the past four municipal elections have voted.

In District One, there are 412 registered voters; District Two has 393; District Three has 352; District Four has 454; and District Five has 325.

Candidates for municipal offices must meet the following requirements: must be registered voters in the city on the date the qualification papers are filed and must have resided within their district 90 days prior to the election and remain a resident of their district during their term of office.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Voting will take place at the Crenshaw County Courthouse in Luverne; all voters must bring a picture I.D. to cast a vote.

The newly elected city council and mayor will take office the first Monday in November, and they will all serve four year terms.
