The Greenville Tigers are seeking course correction Friday, though a difficult region opponent aims to block their path Friday night.
Greenville will host the Tigers of Eufaula Friday in a battle that could determine the outcome of a highly competitive Class 5A Region 2 scene.
Greenville enters the foray from a loss to a talented Class 6A Wetumpka Indians team, and though the loss put the Tigers at 1-3 on the season thus far, it’s hardly the end of the road.
Two of the Tigers’ three losses were to non-region opponents (the other being Beauregard), with Greenville’s only loss of consequence coming at the hands of the Charles Henderson Trojans.
Despite the loss, six of the seven teams in Class 5A’s Region 2 have at least one loss, including Eufaula.
The only undefeated team in the region is Carroll, who just handed Eufaula it’s only region loss in a 41-30 battle.
In a sense, both teams are looking for redemption, though Greenville head football coach Josh McLendon said that Eufaula has a decided advantage.
““It always is a tough game,” McLendon said. “They’ll be coached up and ready. Coach Moore does a really good job with them. They were off tonight, so they’ve had two weeks to prepare for us, which is always tough.
“But we’re playing at home, which is good.”
The remaining road ahead of the Tigers is a difficult one littered with tough opponents, including four consecutive region games beginning Friday.
“We’ve got four games in a row now and we’ve got to play better on both sides of the ball, and special teams has to get better,” McLendon said.
“A win would put us in a good spot to do what we need to do. We’ve just got to go back to work, correct our mistakes and I think we’ll be fine.”
The Tigers of Greenville and Eufaula square off in Greenville Friday night, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
