In their first region game of the season, the Luverne High School Tigers hit the field with fire in their eyes. After a fierce fight against the Goshen Eagles, the Tigers fell at 29-13, but this loss is not dictating the way the Tigers press on from here, according to LHS Head Coach Scott Rials.

“Our kids have had a great attitude; the work ethic is good overall, top to bottom. We’ve just got to continue to press on and learn from our mistakes,” Rials said.

“One loss does not a season make, same as one win. You just have to continue to grow, work and understand that it’s a long drive and we still have a great chance.”

The Tigers put forth tremendous effort after hitting the field, but Rials said there were still a few instances where the team lacked execution on a few plays.

Rials also stated that the team did not move the ball as well as they have in the two previous games, and the Tigers still had multiple turnovers that hurt them in the long run.

Rials is optimistic that if and when the team overcomes these minor hurdles, mistakes can be eliminated to ensure a greater chance of success.

“The main thing is we need to take care of us, and understand that we’ve got to do things properly and understand that the little things in football, as in life, are what make the big differences,” Rials said.

Rials noted that the Tiger defense truly showed up that night and fought to drive back the Eagles every chance they could. The defense was able to continually drive back the Eagles until closer to the end of the game.

Regardless, Rials remains proud of the accomplishments of the team, and also noted that the Tigers accumulated more yardage than the Eagles last Friday night.

This week the Tigers will once again face off against a region rival as they go head to head with Zion Chapel.

“Luckily, we have a 17 region, so we still have games to go and we still have a lot of the destiny in our own hands,” Rials said.

“You never know how it’s going to play out, so we’re just going to try to take the next game and take care of business in it. This is a very important game for us this week since it’s a region game, so we definitely need to have it.”
