Gearheads and animal lovers alike will have cause for celebration Saturday during the second annual Fast and Furry Car Show.

The event, held at the Butler County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., enters its second year in an effort to raise funds for the Greenville Animal Shelter.

Kayla Garlock, event coordinator of the Fast and Furry Car Show, said that there’s still room for improvement despite the fact that last year’s show was a huge success.

“We just looked at what we did last year, what worked well and what we could improve upon, and we fixed that this year,” Garlock said.

“Judging was something that needed improvement that we’ve changed for this year, and we’ve gone to more car shows and put our name out there even more this year to draw in more of a crowd with cars, drivers and vendors to make it a bigger show.”

The addition of vendors is one major change from last year’s show.  After paying a registration fee— of which the Greenville Animal Shelter receives 100 percent—vendors are allowed to sell their various wares and keep 100 percent of the profit.  Money is also generated via a $25 car registration.

Vendors include Bama Baskets, The Freckled Project, T&K Creations, Greenville Tire Co. LLC, Tastee Blizzards Shaved Ice, State Farm, Southern Vinyl, Advocate, Pink Zebra and more.

“It was more of a challenge to organize, but most of our vendors are local, so it worked out well,” Garlock said. “We do have some from out of town.  We have everything from jewelry, to baskets to door hangers and wreaths… just a different variety of things.”

According to Garlock, the cornucopia of vendors makes the car show a more appealing atmosphere for participants who aren’t necessarily into automobiles.

But as far as the cars themselves go, this year’s Fast and Furry Car Show similarly aims to dwarf its inaugural predecessor.

“There’s a little bit of everything,” Garlock said.

“Last year, we had a majority of classic and antique cars.  This year, we have a lot of those already signed up, but we do have some contemporary cars from 2000 and up, and we also have motorcycles.  We pretty much allow any vehicle that wants to register to come in.”

As a judged event, awards and trophies will be given to participants for a number of categories, including Best Interior, Best Wrap Rod and the Greenville Animal Shelter-specific Pick of the Litter award.

Admission is $1, with door prizes being given out throughout the day.  The trophy presentation is slated for 3 p.m.
