Recently, the 99th annual King-Richburg family reunion gathered once again for food, family and fellowship.

The first King reunion was held on July 25, 1917. It was then that the descendants of Thomas and Washington King met and organized a permanent reunion date to meet annually. It is recorded that 150 relatives attended the first reunion.

The group met around 10 a.m. on the morning of July 24, and 71 were in attendance for the day.

Awards were given for the oldest descendant in attendance, Barnett King, born Sept. 15, 1925, and for the youngest descendent in attendance, Titus James Moreland, July 22, 2016. Moreland is also the great grandson of Virginia King Richburg. Mike and Denise Mount told stories of their family and other historic tales.

Ronald Hilburn presented two plaques in memory of Virginia King Richburg and Tommy King for their work in the preservation of the family reunion. Both are now deceased. Penelope King Braten had the plaques etched and made in their honor.

Virginia King Richburg played a substantial role in keeping up with the history and genealogy of the family and also with planning the reunions.

The reunion ended around 2 p.m. that day.
