A two-month long investigation has netted the Greenville Police Department an arrest in connection with the armed robbery of a local convenience store.
Ladarrius Fantroy, 21, of Repton, Ala., has been charged with multiple robberies across at least two counties.
According to authorities at approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 2, a masked suspect entered the Marathon gas station on Pine Apple Highway near Interstate 65, pulled a handgun on the clerk and demanded money.
After the clerk handed over the money, the suspect fled in a dark-colored SUV that was parked on the southbound ramp to Interstate 65.
“Our investigators have been working with other surrounding agencies who have had similar robberies,” said Capt. Justin Lovvorn, commander of the Greenville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
“We were able to develop a suspect using evidence collected at our scene as well as scenes in other jurisdictions.”
Fantroy was taken into custody by the Conecuh County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday.
“The suspect lived in Conecuh County where several of the robberies had occurred,” said Lovvorn. “Myself and Lt. Disney went to Conecuh County to interview the suspect. Once the suspect was confronted with the evidence we had against him, he confessed to the robbery at the Marathon in Greenville, as well as, the robberies that had occurred in Conecuh County.”
Fantroy is being held at the Conecuh County Jail.
“The Greenville Police Department would like to thank the citizens of Greenville and the surrounding areas who assist us in keeping our community safe,” Lovvorn said. “It is the cooperation between law enforcement and the community that truly make us effective.”
The GPD asked that anyone with information about a crime that wish to report it to law enforcement call and ask for an investigator at (334) 382-7461.
