The new Brantley High School band director Kylie McGlincy says she hopes the 2016-2017 school year will usher in a period of growth and leadership development for the students.

Brantley High School hosted a meet and greet on Tuesday night to introduce McGlincy to the community.

“A lot of people came out,” McGlincy said.

“It felt great to have support from the community and tremendous support from the principal.”

Kris Odom, Brantley High School principal says the band is in safe hands under McGlincy. “We’re excited about the new things and resources that Ms. McGlincy brings,” Odom said.

“The band is going to turn a new page, and we will go down the path she leads.”

McGlincy is a graduate of Troy University. She holds a bachelor of arts in music education and a master’s degree in education. A Brainbridge, Georgia native, she chose to attend Troy after seeing and hearing the Sound of the South Band.

“I’ve been playing piano since the 1st grade,” McGlincy said.

“I’ve had great band directors since middle and high school, and my mother is a teacher. I knew this is what I wanted to do.”

The small town life appeals to McGlincy. Tuesday night’s meet and greet displayed the dedication of the community.

“I like the closeness of a small town,” she said.

“Everyone is always there to help.”

This school year students can expect a great deal of development in their musicality. McGlincy would like the community to be a part of the students’ growth.

“I would love the community to come to the football games,” she said.

“Cheer with the band if the band is doing cheers. Wait until the band is finish performing to get your concessions. Stay a little while to watch the students and see their hard work.”

McGlincy says she has her bulldog bite ready.

“I’m excited to wear Kelly green, although I would appreciate any tips on where to find it,” she said.
