Calling all cooks!
It’s time for the 10th Annual Heritage Cook-Off, sponsored by the Butler County Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee.
The theme for this year is baked sweet bread loaf.
“This is a very wide field, from banana nut, cranberry, and orange to zucchini and beyond,” said Charlene Powell of the BCFFWLC.
The cook-off will be held July 16 at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Walnut Street Church of Christ.
All Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) members, male or female, 18 years of age or older are invited to participate.
A panel of judges will have the difficult task of naming the top three entries. The entries are to be baked at home and brought to the cook-off ready to be judged.
The top three winners will receive monetary prizes and the first place winner will go on to the state cook-off to be held in September at the ALFA office in Montgomery.
Entries will be judged on flavor, attractiveness, simplicity of recipe, appearance and of course taste.
“Following our blind judging, the participants and those attending will have the tasty opportunity to sample the cookies,” said Powell.
Membership in the Federation is $30 a year and brings many money-saving benefits with it, Powell says.
