Chelsea Ledbetter and Claire Ledbetter have been chosen to represent Georgiana School at the 2016 session of American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State, held on the campus of the University of Alabama.

For one week, they will become a citizen of an imaginary state, taking part in the political life of her community, primarily through campaigning for and electing city, county, and state offices. They will learn the operation of government by participating in party caucuses and through the election process.

Well-known speakers and other state, county, and city officials are expected to visit and enlighten the young women on their civic responsibilities.

Chelsea plans to campaign for mayor, while Claire will seek a seat on the city council.

Chelsea is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the Georgiana School marching band and concert band, the softball team, Huntingdon College’s honor band and Troy University’s honor band.

She attended the University of Alabama Capstone Leadership Academy in 2015 and was recently awarded the BP Global Citizens of Tomorrow scholarship from ASF-USA, which will give her the opportunity to spend her senior year living with a Brazilian family and studying in a local high school.

Claire is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society, the Georgiana School marching band and concert band and the school’s softball team.

Both are sponsored by the Butler County American Legion Auxiliary.

They are the daughters of Joy Ledbetter and the granddaughters of Henry and Becky Ledbetter.
