“My situation is, every bill and coin in your wallet has ‘In God We Trust’ on it, and I can’t think of any better place for it to be than on our patrol cars,” said Crenshaw County Sheriff Mickey Powell as he proudly added the “In God We Trust” decal to his vehicle.

After much time of consideration, Powell believed it was time to take action. He discussed the idea with his fellow officers, and there was a resounding agreement amongst them all to have these decals emblazoned upon the vehicles.

“It’s hard to believe that anybody in law enforcement, with the job that we do, doesn’t believe in the Lord,” Powell said.

“I’ve been shot at and a lot of these other guys have been in real touchy situations, and you just thank God that He gets you through it.”

Since taking office, Sheriff Powell says that this act has been on his list. Finally, he is able to check that item off. It is his hope that the citizens of the county will be just as proud of the decals as his fellow officers are.

“You always get opposition when you make a stance, regardless of what it’s for, but what this does is say that we are for everybody because the principles we execute are Godly principles,” said Crenshaw County Commission Chairman Charlie Sankey, Jr.

“Whether you believe in Him, don’t believe in Him whatever, we’re still saying we are for everybody.”

Since the decals were paid for by Sheriff Powell directly, there will be no cost incurred from the citizens of the county. The new decals will adorn all 14 county Sheriff’s Office vehicles.

“These stickers did not cost the tax payers one red cent; I paid for them with my own money,” Powell said.

“The citizens elected me Sheriff and this is my belief. How come I can’t express my right? That’s the way I look at it.”
