A one-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 South had a portion of the roadway between Georgiana and Greenville closed for much of the day Tuesday.
At about 6 a.m., an 18-wheeler hauling nearly 8,000 gallons of jet fuel turned over near mile marker 118, spilling nearly all the fuel onto the roadway and forcing authorities to detour traffic.
The interstate remained closed until just before 5 p.m.
During the closure, the Alabama Department of Transportation encouraged motorists as far north as Montgomery to avoid taking Interstate 65 South, and instead encouraged them to use Alabama Hwy. 97, Alabama Hwy. 185, and U.S. Hwy. 31.
The crash impacted traffic in the Camellia City near Exit 130 as motorists were detoured off the interstate and onto Hwy. 31.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was treated at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and released.
