The dynamic senior duo of Jacquez Payton and Richard Boggan have once again earned statewide recognition, courtesy of the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA).
The pair were both named to the Class 1A All-State teams, with Payton earning a spot on the first team and Boggan being named to Class 1A’s second team.
Neither player is a stranger to the ASWA All-State list, however, as Boggan was named to the Class 1A All-State first team and Payton was named a member of the third team in 2015.
This year actually marks Payton’s third time making the All-State team, a feat which Georgiana head basketball coach Kirk Norris said makes both he and Boggan the most decorated basketball players in Georgiana’s history.
The pair have been at Norris’ side for the majority of his nine-year tenure at Georgiana, but next season will mark the first year without them.
“I’ve never had to ask these kids to play hard,” Norris said.
“That’s mostly what I think you could contribute anyone’s success to—working hard and having stability.”
Boggan capped off his high school career with a 25-point, 15-rebound double-double performance, just one of several (including a streak of 36 consecutive double-double games between 2015-2016) throughout his time as a varsity Panther.
Payton finished with 1,852 career points, which Norris believes to be a school record.
