Butler County Schools recognized and honored members of the transportation department at a breakfast recently hosted as part of the American School Bus Council’s Love the Bus campaign.

Love the Bus is an ongoing campaign by the American School Bus Council to raise awareness and appreciation for the hundreds of thousands of school bus drivers who safely transport children to and from school. While Love the Bus in an ongoing campaign, every February ASBC and schools across America take time out to celebrate Love the Bus month.

In addition to honoring transportation department employees, a special recognition was held in honor of longtime BCSS employee Lloyd Robinson.  Robinson, who passed away in February of 2015, was honored at the breakfast for his 19 years of service with the school system.  Robinson’s wife, Bernadette, was on hand to accept a plaque in his memory.  Bernadette is also employed with the BCSS and currently works in the cafeteria at Greenville Middle School.

Butler County Schools superintendent Amy Bryan said that the breakfast and recognition was a rewarding event. “Our state transportation representative was our own Ward Thigpen.  Not only did the drivers honor Mr. Lloyd Robinson’s memory, but Mr. Thigpen did as well. I hope all drivers and mechanics feel appreciated for their responsibility every day. This was one event where we tried to make sure of it.”

According the American School Bus Council, bus drivers have made the Yellow School Bus the largest and safest transportation system in the country.
