Pioneer Electric Cooperative is offering two graduating high school seniors in the cooperative’s service area the chance to compete for a $1,000 scholarship.
The scholarships are made available through the Electric Cooperative Foundation Scholarship Program. Since 2001, the foundation has awarded $427,000 in scholarships.
“The importance of giving local student scholarships is paramount in preserving the livelihood of our community,” said Casey Rogers, Pioneer Electric Cooperative communications specialist. “A few local organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Elizabeth D. Leckie Foundation gave me scholarships when I was preparing to go to college and I will forever be grateful. Now, as an adult in this community, I realize the great effort that goes into funding and promoting these scholarship programs and I really appreciate organizations that go the extra mile to help hometown students. I am honored to announce that Pioneer Electric Cooperative will be giving two Rural Electric Cooperative Foundation Scholarships this year to students that live on our lines. We added a second scholarship this year and are excited to be able to give back to the communities that we serve by helping our students further their education.”
Scholarship recipients must attend an accredited four-year college, junior college or technical school or vocational school and must be a dependent of a member of participating electric cooperative.
