Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama announced Monday that it would be investing $173 million into its Montgomery facility, which the company expects to create an additional 214 jobs.

Hyundai representatives reported that the money would be used to boost motor production at the plant.

The factory should produce approximately 300,000 motors a year once expansion is complete, with construction expected to be finished late this fall.

Ricky McLaney, executive director with Butler County Commission for Economic Development, said he expects a ripple effect to be felt in Greenville.

“I think it is great anytime that a plant so close to us expands, especially since we have local suppliers that service that plant,” McLaney said.

Mayor Dexter McLendon said that in this economic climate, any news of job creation is good, but to have over 200 makes this especially beneficial for the Montgomery and Greenville area.

“As Hyundai continues to grow, this can only help Tier-I suppliers like Hwashin, Hysco and everyone in Greenville,” said McLendon.

“These will be jobs that people here in Greenville can compete for.”

Hyundai expects to start production at the motor-expanded facility in March of 2012.
