With an education, the possibilities are endless. That was the message Butler County School System officials tried to share by hosting the second annual College and Career Fair held at Georgiana School’s gymnasium.

More than 300 seniors from five area high schools and two counties, Butler and Lowndes, attended the career fair. Butler County Schools Career Coach, Otis Grayson, has attended multiple events like this during his time as an educator and knows the importance of showing students every possible option.

“The main goal for organizing this year’s event was to show students that the end goal of the educational process is a career,” said Grayson.

Some seniors often find it difficult to envision life after high school, and fairs like this show students the different educational and employment options available in and out of this county.

Students were encouraged to use this opportunity to meet and speak with employers in and near Butler County. Twenty-three representatives from various colleges, technical schools, state agencies, private companies and internship programs welcomed seniors to their booths.

The seniors were given vital information to help point them in the right direction, and in addition to the information given at the booths, some also provided the students with hands-on experiences.

Butler County Schools are focused on building futures for students by providing opportunities and events such as this fair.

“We host these events because we want our students to begin with the end in mind,” said Butler County Schools Career Tech Director, Jennifer Burt. “We know exposing students to multiple two-year college options will help them plan their futures and be successful in that pathway.”
