For a moment Allen Stephenson felt like he was in heaven.

It was nearly a year ago at the annual Butler County Ministerial Association’s Thanksgiving service and choir members from churches around the county had joined together to sing hymns.

“I told my wife last year that I thought I had just experienced what heaven is like,” Stephenson, the president of the BCMA, said.

This year’s service is set to take place Nov. 24 at First United Methodist Church. First Baptist Church pastor Chase Clower will deliver the message, but other members of the BCMA will conduct portions of the service.

A collection will be taken up to help fund the group’s ministry to transients.

“This is a very important event because we secure the majority of the funds we use throughout the year to assist folks that are stranded in Butler County,” said Stephenson.

The organization, working with local law enforcement, helps secure hotel rooms for those in need.

According to Stephenson, the group spent several thousand dollars last year on hotel rooms as part of the ministry.

Aside from helping fund the ministry, the service also joins believers from across the community together — the most visible example of that being the choir.

“The music is usually glorious,” Stephenson said.

The Thanksgiving service will begin at 6:30 p.m.
