Mike Lutzenkirchen, father of star Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen, will speak at Fort Dale Academy Monday at 1:20 p.m. in the gym.

Philip Lutzenkirchen died in a tragic single-vehicle accident on June 29, 2014 at just 23 years old.

While at Auburn University, he mounted some of the most impressive statistics at the tight end position in the school’s history, amassing more than 1,000 yards receiving his senior year. But his accomplishments on the football field were far from his defining factor.

A loving son, brother and friend, he was a man of great faith and a devout follower of Christ noted for his dedication to community service.

Mike Lutzenkirchen, executive director of the Lutz 43 Foundation, continues to spread the word via an honest discussion of his son’s life in a message titled “Philip’s Legacy… What Legacy Are You Leaving?”

Having spoken to more than 100 schools, church and other organizations, the message has proven a valuable life lesson for students in grades 5-12, as well as older audiences.

Fort Dale Headmaster David Brantley said that he was happy to count Fort Dale Academy among the 100 locations Lutzenkirchen has spoken at.

“We’re excited to have him,” Brantley said.

“He has an impactful message for our students, and it will emphasize the importance of making good decisions.  Parents and others interested in hearing Mike speak are welcome to attend.”
